My Days in Bombay: An Evening With Dev Anand, Vijay Ananad and Chetan Anand

Nostalgia An Evening with Anands ZGM     Our study was eight feet by six feet small cubicle; it had three taakhs (windows), and glazed multi-coloured terracotta tile floor. Of the three windows, one opened towards a narrow lane that led to a maze of lanes, with every lane having a story to tell about the resistance movement. During hot summers squatting and studying on the bare terracotta tile floor of the room gave us an air-condition feel, and during winters covered with woollen rugs, it used to be the cosiest place in our home. Those days, we were almost self-sufficient and rarely depended on imports, there were tens of terracotta tile kilns in few Mohallas in our neighbourhood- spread over from Khanayar to Kralayar. Thousands of artisan were engaged in producing quality … Read entire article »

UN Human Rights Organization: Kashmiris See It As Their Voice?

Punchline We Find A Voice By Z.G. Muhammad       Historically, Kashmiris since 1819 have always greeted the voices raised from outside the state against their oppression and in support of their cause.  In 1934, when Mahatma Gandhi in response to a missive by a Kashmiri Pandit leader,  Prem Nath Bazaz wrote to him in a letter dated May 15, 1934,  “Seeing that Kashmir is predominantly Mussalman it is bound to become one day a Mussalman state. My Bombay Days: Tryst With The Two Star Sisters

Nostalgia The Two Star Sisters ZGM ‘If you want to see magic lands, close your eyes, and you will see one.’ That is how our childhood was- a world of ‘pure imagination.’ Ours was a small world, but it was the richness of our imagination that made it most beautiful.   During winter and summer breaks, for my friends and me, one of best hangouts was a barbers shop at the main roundabout in our locality. The barber’s shop, … Read entire article »

New Delhi- Srinagar Talks: Leaders Response

New Delhi- Srinagar Talks: Leaders Response

Punchline Talks: Evian negations Could Be A Model By Z.G. Muhammad There is no history of a dialogue between Srinagar and New Delhi for the resolution of the “Kashmir Dispute.” If a dialogue takes place now, it will be making history. Moreover, the leader from New Delhi, who initiates talks for deciding the future of the state, the cause of wars and skirmishes between India and Pakistan and a nuclear flashpoint will pass into history as a great … Read entire article »

My Bombay Days: Looking For Manto In the Island of Giants

My Bombay Days: Looking For Manto In the Island of Giants

Nostalgia Island of Giants ZGM The tinsel world of India has an intrinsic charm- a beauty that makes its distinct from any other metropolises in the sub-continent. Those, who adopt the city as their abode remotely move out of it. Those who live in it hardly forget about it. For many, like me, the city in all its shades rings like Dr. Faustus mesmerizing lines on seeing the Helen of Troy, ‘was this the face.’    Like a magnet … Read entire article »
