13 July 1931 : And Butler Changed Destiny of Slave Nation

And A Butler Change Destiny of A Slave Nation Z. G .Muhammad Some moments are important than epochs in the histories of nations. So holds valid about  July 13, 1931, in the history of Kashmir- the day when people of Kashmir scripted their history with scarlet blood. It was not the first day when people laid their lives for just cause- history of Kashmir after 1819 is replete with incidents when ruthless alien rulers brutally murdered … Read entire article »

Edward Said’s Writings and Kashmir

Edward Said’s Writings and Kashmir

Some years back  in my column Punchline published in Greater Kashmir on Monday’s , when I wrote there is no Edward Said on our side to tell our tale   with all its objectivity to the world it hurt ego of some “intellectual” friends.  Sitting on higher pedestals, floating on the crests of authority they believed that I was belittling their standing as “intellectual Jupiter’s”. The intention was never to demolish the castles of   make-believe but … Read entire article »

India and Pakistan- Again on brink?

India and Pakistan- Again on brink?

India is no more a bête noire in Pakistan. Elite in Islamabad and Karachi no more count it as an ‘enemy country’ instead they look upon it not only as a role model for democracy and development but also as neighbor to be ‘trusted’.   Now  ‘India votary club’ in the neighboring country is not just confined to journalists like  Najam Sethi and activists like  Asma Jahangir and Beena Sarwar only but if opinion pages in … Read entire article »

True, Washington and its NATO allies have envisioned their future in the region after 2014, but it would be too early to predict with absolute authority about the shape of thing to come. Ostensibly, the emerging scenario holds less of promise and more of peril. There are more of questions than answers about the climax. One of the important questions that have been bothering experts in the region is that if South Asia was not once again slipping   into the cold war and New Delhi was not becoming its front- ranked ally of US in the region.  This  South Asian concern … Read entire article »

Pakistan On The Brink And Kashmir

Sometimes you do not like an author for his predilections but still you read him.  One such author for me has been Ahmed Rashid of Pakistan.  Statements by some top Kashmir leaders both combatants and political criticizing Islamabad for distancing itself from Kashmir or putting it on backburner reminded me about his recent book with a provocative title, ‘Pakistan on the Brink: The future of Pakistan, Afghanistan and the West.  The book   is relevant to the ongoing debate in Kashmir about lukewarm attitude of Pakistan, towards what it described as “the core issue”. This is his third book  on his favourite subject war in Afghanistan and security situation in South Asia, the earlier too being Taliban that covers the Afghanistan of 1980s and 1990s and rise of Taliban and Al Qaeda … Read entire article »
